Are hospital mistakes being hidden?

One fifth of hospitals could be covering up their mistakes

A government review has suggested that one fifth of NHS hospital trusts in England may be covering up mistakes, threatening patient safety.

The review worryingly indicated a “poor”  safety culture, as analysis of reporting incidents revealed that 29 out of 141 trusts were not registering the expected number of safety incidents.

Ministers want to improve transparency and are therefore launching a new website where patients can view the performance of individual hospitals on issues such as staffing levels and infection rates.

How would you rate your local hospital? Do you feel patient safety isn’t being taken seriously enough?
