Wales set to trial new methods of measuring cancer patient waiting times

The way cancer waiting times are measured are due to be overhauled across the seven health boards in Wales.

Doctors have requested a ‘single cancer pathway’ as opposed to the current NHS system that divides cases into urgent or non-urgent. Details of the pilot project are due to be announced by the Welsh government later on today. The Welsh government has said the new measures will give a better idea of whether cancer patients receive timely treatment regardless how the disease is diagnosed.

Health Minister Mark Drakeford has already revealed an overhaul of A&E and ambulance service targets are also underway.
