Doctors Rotation.
What you need to know…
What is Rotation?
Every August, junior doctors across the country will move into a new speciality as part of their ongoing training.
The purpose of this process known as ‘rotation’ or ‘changeover’ is to give young medical professionals the chance to learn all fields of medicine and healthcare and help them decide which specialism to choose at the end of their training.
For many trainee doctors, knowing which area of medicine to go into isn’t always a given, and having the chance to move posts can broaden your horizons and help you make informed decisions about your career. It may even be a revelatory experience for those who knew which path to take but find that they enjoy or are better suited to another field.
It is also a chance for more senior doctors and locums to try new things, learn new skills and keep themselves active and mobile within the profession. Staying in one place isn’t for everyone and some doctors prefer not to work in the same speciality or location as to avoid burning-out or losing focus. Being adaptable and having lots of experience across many divisions will help considerably with your earning power.
The rotation takes places on the first Wednesday of August each year and it’s important to make sure you secure your next position as soon as possible. Take the time to do your research and assess your current position, what your goals are and what interests you.
