Please summarise your career over the last 3 years

Worked as BMS in haematology & blood transfusion laboratories at Bradford Royal Infirmary as a full time NHS employee until December 2021. In March 2022 to October 2022, I started work at Tameside & Glossop NHS Foundation Trust, also working in haematology and blood transfusion laboratories including lone working.
February 2023 to March 2023 I worked as short term locum placement at the Transfusion Department on the Isle of Man.
April 2023 to December 2023, I worked as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist at IPP, Basildon.0

Have you ever been disciplined, suspended, or are you currently under investigation by an NHS Trust or other employer (including other agencies) – if yes, please give details

No.

Why have you chosen to register with The Locum Agency? *

I was contacted by Howard Rosenberg via LinkedIn. He offered to find me a locum BMS placement and seemed to be very amicable and professional.

Tell me about a recent occasion when you were under pressure and handled it successfully. - What was the situation? - What actions did you take? - What was the outcome?

Desperately short staffed in Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments at the start of the day. I chose the most proficient and competent AP's and MLA's to tasks in different and committed myself to keeping the department fully operational as per Lone Working and Out of Hours working criteria meeting all of the turn around times in both departments without compromising the quality of the work output and compromising patient safety.

What is your understanding of the Human Tissue Act 2004?

It is legislated regulations with govern the removal, storage, use and disposal of all human derived tissue which in my job applies to blood and blood products in the Blood Transfusion Laboratory.

What steps would you take, going forward if you become aware of an incident or complaint, which you were involved or implicated in?

Document it on an Incident Report Form. Inform the immediate Line Manager and follow the protocol of the incident reporting of the CThe Locum Group.

Please outline your understanding of Clinical Governance.

Clinical governance is defined as “A framework through which NHS organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safe-guarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish.”1 It's often thought of in terms of the seven pillars of clinical governance—clinical effectiveness, risk management, patient experience and involvement, communication, resource effectiveness, strategic effectiveness, and learning effectiveness.

Thinking about a recent difficult situation you’ve had with patient’s relatives – How did you handle this and the outcome

As a Biomedical Scientist we do not discuss any pathology related issues with patient's or their relatives. They are referred to speak to the clinical team.
If the situation involves an incident work carried out by the Pathology department, I would take down the details of the relatives and patient involved and forward this information to my Line Manager or Head of Department.
