I have held a pharmacy role at Bart's health during the past 3 years. I began as a student technician and during this time I was exposed to all aspects of hospital pharmacy, which included: medicines distribution (stores), procurement, aseptics, medicines management, outpatient & inpatient pharmacy.

I had been referred by a college.

Tell me about a recent occasion when you were under pressure and handled it successfully. - What was the situation? - What actions did you take? - What was the outcome?

I once had to work on three lengthy course submissions, that were all due in the same week. However, by prioritising my responsibilities and breaking down tasks into manageable steps, I was able to maintain focus and complete all three projects ahead of time.

What is your understanding of the Medicines Act 1968?

Having controls in place regarding how patients obtain medications to ultimately, safeguard service users. \for instance, POM can only be sold or supplied by a pharmacist against a valid prescription.

You are asked to prescribe medication which is not clearly documented within the patients notes and medical record. What should you do?

It is within my professional limitations to query such a situation, and so I would have to refer back to the doctor or prescriber for clarification.

What steps would you take, going forward if you become aware of an incident or complaint, which you were involved or implicated in?

I would refer back to the logged datix relating to the previous incident, this is so that can consider the action(s) that had been taken to prevent recurrence.

The framework through which healthcare organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high quality of care. For example, appraisals, training, patient surveys, and regular audits are all methods used for the continuous improvements.

Thinking about a recent difficult situation you’ve had with patient’s relatives – How did you handle this and the outcome

I was once in a situation where a patient's relative was very unhappy with the waiting time for their discharge medications. They were yelling and demanding to speak to the ward manager. I remained calm and professional in this situation. which helped to diffuse the situation and calm the relative. I assured them that it wasn't possible to expedite the medications at this time, due to the sheer volume of work already in circulation at the inpatient pharmacy. However, I spoke with the manager, and we agreed on a course of action that satisfied the patient. This required some extra work on my part, I took ownership of situation and so, once my ward round was finished for the day. I volunteered to dispense these items myself for the patient or relative could collect the items, from the inpatient pharmacy, at their earliest connivence. I learnt that it's essential to stay calm in difficult situations while trying to find solutions.
